- I'm sorry if this has been a recent thread - I've been away.
- Please send me any comment on the Baycom modules and software.
- I'm especially intrigued by the apparent simplicity of the Baycom
- but I'm certain that there are some pitfalls I should know about.

-
- I was just wondering if there is a database out on Internet somewhere that can
- correlate call signs with an e-mail address? In other words, I think it would
- be incredibly useful to be able to access a database like the call sign
- servers which would also tell you the ham's e-mail address (if he/she has one).
- Might be tough to maintain, but it would sure make it easy to get in contact
- with someone having only their call sign.
-
- Just wondering.

-
- Oh yes, it's a famous bug in 1.1.6D4
-
- Most of my locals have reverted to 1.1.6C1 to get around this problem.
- The UK agents don't have a later version of the code :-(
-
- The same bug also exists in the TNC-220 version of the Pac-Comm 1.1.6D4
- as well - same fix applies, revert to 1.1.6C1.
-
- Incidently all the TNC-220 Pac-Comm code seems to lock up in KISS mode
- if data is received on the radio port whilst the TNC is doing the "LED
- dance" at power-up.
- I've just hacked the LED dance out of the code I'm using on the TNC-220
- and it is a lot better, but will still lock up if noise is received
- whilst the TNC is powering up.
- I know a couple of people who've tried the "220KISS" ROM from G8BPQ,
- but none of us can get the TNC to =ever= transmit anything. Perhaps
- it's a new way to relieve channel congestion??

- Hi :
-
- Our local ARES group is interested in adding packet radio capabilies to
- our "toolkit". We've got a number of people who have used packet, but none
- with lots of in-depth technical expertise.
-
- There are a number of questions we've got to look at, including :
- - is AX.25 or TCP/IP "better"?
- - what is the "best" hardware and software?
- - what sorts of things is packet best suited for, in an ARES context?
- - how gracefully does the communication channel degrade as more users
- are added?
- - what sort of standard software packages are out there for ARES use?
- - etc., etc., etc.
-
- Any advice/comments/voice-of-experience would be greatly appreciated!
- (I'd be willing to create & post a summary of the responses, if anyone
- is interested in such a thing).
-
- BTW, I'm an avid collector of manuals from other ARES groups, and am
- always on the lookout for new ones! For those who are interested, I'll
- gladly share a copy of ours and any others I've got (I have a few already).

-
- To All Hams World-Wide,
-
- I spotted a reference to a FREE logging program on a conference that I
- monitor on USENET. I had the article published in our Club newsletter as well
- as mailed to over 75 Hamclubs throughout Calif., Hawaii, the East Coast!
-
- A friend of mine sent for this program. He received his program but it isn't
- free. I find this sort of advertising to be deceptive and misleading. I find
- that $49.99 is not exactly free or did I miss something when I read the
- following description to SPLog.
-
- The following text was excerpted from the post on USENET and the docs that
- came with SPLog!
